Shane Watson questions India’s decision to exclude T20 World Cup-worthy star bowler

Former Aussie all-rounder Shane Watson, reckons that T Natarajan should have been included in India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 because of his consistently strong bowling performance in IPL 2024.

The omission of Natarajan from India’s 15-man  roster caught Watson off guard, as he described how the pacer may have given India’s bowling attack an extra punch. With 15 wickets in eight games, the 33-year-old is the current Purple Cap holder in IPL 2024.

Many debates took place as BCCI announced the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup. Among the notable absentees from the list were Natarajan and LSG captain KL Rahul; players like Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill were added to the reserve list.

Watson noted how Natarajan’s remarkable bowling could have been crucial to India’s World Cup campaign

“His ability to bowl a yorker and his ability to change his pace is something remarkable. His performances have been consistent and I was surprised that he wasn’t included in the Indian squad. He bowls at crucial periods of the game when the batters are firing. When he does well, everyone in Indian and international cricket is thrilled for him,” said Watson on Jio Cinema.

With Natarajan in outstanding form, SRH beat table-toppers RR by one run on May 2 to get back on track. The win will aid them in sharpening their strategies for their eagerly awaited showdown against MI on May 6.
