Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar gave a standing ovation to Mumbai batters Ajinkya Rahane and Musheer Khan for adding 100-plus partnership in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. The duo took Mumbai to a strong position.
Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of Mumbai, finally returned to form after a long lean patch with the bat. He brought up the second fifty of the season.
Mumbai ended Day 2 at 141 for 2, leading Vidarbha by 260 runs. Musheer Khan, who has been dealing in hundreds and fifties in the season, showcased his batting skills once again. He kept the scoreboard ticking along with his skipper.
Musheer was unbeaten on 51 runs off 135 balls, laced with 3 fours.
Gavaskar, who was present at the Wankhede Stadium, couldn’t stop himself from admiring Rahane and Musheer’s brilliant batting.
Earlier, Mumbai were bowled out for 224 in their first innings, with only Shardul Thakur scoring a fifty. Vidarbha failed to capitalize on the low score of Mumbai and was bundled out for just 105 runs.
Dhawal Kulkarni, Shams Mulani, and Tanush Kotian took three wickets each. With a big lead of 119 runs on the basis of the first innings, Mumbai openers went out with the intention of scoring runs for the team. However, Prithvi Shaw (11) and Bhupen Lalwani (18) were soon back in the dressing room. It was Rahane and Musheer’s show from thereon, and the two didn’t allow Vidarbha to put Mumbai on the back foot.
