Equity benchmark indices continued upward momentum in mid-trading session guided by US-Japan trade deal optimism. With boosted investor confidence, market experts see potential for rally.
Sensex traded 360.20 pts or 0.44 per cent higher at 82,547.01 as at 1.16 pm (close to intraday high of 82,632.99) and Nifty 50 climbed 105.35 pts or 0.42 per cent to 25,166.25.
Both smallcap and midcap indices staged resilience. On the sectoral front, realty index dragged the most, down over 2.5 per cent. Media, FMCD and PSU Bank also dipped, while auto, heathcare, financial and IT traded with modest gains.
Top gainers & losers today
Shares of Tata Motors, Shriram Finance, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel and Maruti lead the gainers of Nifty 50, while Tata Consumer, BEL, Hindustan Unilever, ONGC and UltraTech Cement lagged the most.
A total of 2,875 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange, of which 1,315 advanced and 1,445 declined.
InfoBean, ICICI Bank, M&M and Paytm featured among the 62 stocks that hit a 52-week high. Colgate and Tejas Networks were among the 24 stocks that hit a 52-week low.
56 stocks hit the upper circuit and 43 hit the lower circuit.
Midcap and smallcap movers
Ola Electric zoomed over 7 per cent, leading the gainers of midcap segment. Dixon, Biocon and Premier Energies soared with 2-3 per cent gains. On the flip side, Colgate, Oberoi Realty, M&M Finance, Patanjali and Prestige declined 2-4 per cent.
Under the smallcap segment, CreditAccess, Reliance Power, Castrol India, IGIL and TTML gained 2-5 per cent. Triveni Turbine, Newgen, Brigade, PNB Housing and IEX depreciated 2-4 per cent.
On the BSE, Bombay Dyeing rallied 11 per cent, KIOCL, MRPL, Ola Electric and Speicejet zoomed 6-9 per cent. Ion Exchange, Lodha, Aurionpro draffed 6-12 per cent.
