“You can’t have a sudden upgrade”: Aakash Chopra reacts to Gautam Gambhir’s statement on Team India’s tailenders after defeat in Leeds

Overview:

Former player Aakash Chopra doesn’t seem satisfied with head coach Gautam Gambhir’s statement on India’s lower-order performance in the first Test against England.

England registered a five-wicket win, with the rivals’ batting collapses in both innings proving decisive. India lost seven wickets for 41 runs in the first innings and six wickets for 31 runs in the second innings.

Although Aakash mentioned that Gambhir couldn’t have said anything else, he felt that shortcomings are not acceptable in modern-day cricket.

“The tails of other teams are contrunitions but not ours. Gautam Gambhir was asked about this concern after the match. He said the tailenders are trying and the top order also gets out cheaply at times. I feel this is what the coach should say,” he said.

“However, the team lacks quality. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep can’t have a sudden upgrade. Your tail is a proper tail, but that doesn’t work in modern-day cricket.

Aakash highlighted that the future belongs to bowlers who can bat a bit. He added that single-skilled players don’t work in red-ball cricket anymore.
