IPL 2025: What happens if RCB vs KKR match is called off due to rain

In Match 58 of the Indian Premier League 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 17. The match is, however, at risk of being called off due to rain.

If the contest fails to produce a result, there will be implications for Kolkata and Bengaluru. KKR will be eliminated from the tournament and they will join Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the unwanted list.

KKR are sixth in the points table, with 11 points and a net run rate of +0.193. On the other hand, an abandoned game would give RCB one point, taking them to the top of the standings. However, it won’t seal their place in the playoffs.

RCB are currently in second place, with 16 points and a net run rate of +0.482 after eight victories out of 11 games. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won six consecutive away matches this season. However, they have lost three out of five games at home. The weather forecast shows overcast conditions throughout the day, with a 60-75% chance of rain and potential thunderstorms between 8 pm and 9 pm.

The competition is heating up as the IPL season nears its conclusion, with seven teams still vying for the four available playoff spots. KKR have won the IPL three times (2012, 2014, and 2024), while RCB are still aiming to lift their maiden trophy.
