Delhi Capitals deal with Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman lands in hot soup

Delhi Capitals’ plan to add Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for the remainder of IPL 2025 has landed in hot soup as the Bangladesh Cricket Board has not received any request for a no-objection certificate (NOC) from either the speedster or the franchise.

On Wednesday, DC announced the signing of Rahim as a replacement for Australia batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, who refused to return to India for the restart of the 18th season due to personal reasons.

Usually, the signing is announced only after a player gets the NOC from his cricket board. However, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said the board hasn’t heard from Mustafizur or the IPL.

“Mustafizur will travel with the national team to the UAE,” Chowdhury told ESPNcricinfo on Wednesday.

“We have not received any request from the IPL officials. I haven’t heard from Mustafizur either,” he added.

Mustafizur is likely to become the team’s lead bowler if Mitchell Starc does not return for the remaining matches.

Mustafizur posted a picture of himself travelling to Dubai for the two T20Is against the UAE. The matches are scheduled for May 17 and 19. If he plays in the two games, the left-arm pacer will miss Delhi’s match against Gujarat Titans on May 18. DC are set to play their last three fixtures on May 18, 21, and 24.

It is reported that the Delhi Capitals are currently talking to the BCB about the early release of the pacer. If an overseas player competes in the IPL, his cricket board also receives a percentage of the player’s contract.

Mustafizur made his IPL debut in 2016 and represented Delhi Capitals in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, he took eight wickets in as many games at an economy of 7.62. In 2023, he played just two matches. The 29-year-old has played 38 IPL matches, dismissing 38 batters at an economy rate of 7.84.
