Three Finals and three defeats are enough to sum up Virat Kohli’s IPL career so far. From the first day of the league in 2008 to date, he hasn’t been able to lift the trophy despite scoring more than 8300 runs, the most by a batter in the history of the cash-rich league. The second-highest run-getter, Rohit Sharma, hasn’t even touched the 7000-run mark. Kohli has hit 8 hundreds and led the franchises for years, but success has never arrived. At 36, he is probably one or two seasons away from calling it a day from the best franchise competition in the world.
In IPL 2025, he is among the top run-scorers with 392 runs from 9 matches. Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans is the only player ahead of the veteran. The young southpaw has amassed 417 runs from 8 contests. Former India speedster and the winner of the trophy with Deccan Chargers, RP Singh, touched upon the subject of the 36-year-old not lifting the cup in his decorated career. He feels Royal Challengers Bengaluru have lacked the final push needed to cross the line.
“Virat Kohli will come to know about the hard work needed to win an IPL trophy when he lifts the trophy for the first time. He has been batting well, but the final push is lacking,” RP Singh said.
He also opined on the current squad of the Bengaluru-based franchise. “They made a good team in the mega auction. Devdutt Padikkal is doing well. Rajat Patidar was rewarded for his good performance and appointed as captain. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was with RCB for two seasons at the start of his career and has now returned to the same team. He is bowling well,” he added.
Bengaluru are third in the standings with 12 points from 9 contests.
