“Kuldeep Yadav played his first game after a long time and you rested him from the second ODI”: Parthiv Patel questions India’s surprising selection process

Kuldeep Yadav was dropped from the second ODI against England but in Rohit Sharma’s terminology, he was rested to given a chance to Varun Chakravarthy. Kuldeep played in the series opener in Nagpur and instead of giving him more game time ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the team management decided to exclude him.

England batters were able to pick Varun’s deliveries on his debut. Earlier, he took 14 wickets in 5 T20I matches against the Jos Buttler-led team and the selectors added him to the ODI squad for three games against the visiting English team.

On the hand, Kuldeep has troubled batters over the years and his omission was not taken lightly by Parthiv Patel. “Kuldeep Yadav played his first match after a long time and you rested him from the second match. The selection process has been surprising for some time.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped after making his debut in Nagpur. Shreyas Iyer was not a part of the plans in the first ODI but Virat Kohli’s injury opened the door for him,” Parthiv Patel said on Sports 18.

Kuldeep will travel to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are the other three spinners.
