Rohit Sharma has become a baggage for Team India in Test cricket and his continuous failures have impacted the performance of other players as well. He is a part of the Playing XI because of his captaincy and now the 38-year-old is under pressure to take a call on his future.
According to multiple reports, Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of the men’s team, had a word with him in Melbourne. He has been informed about his position in the squad and if India end up losing the Test series, there is a possibility of Rohit announcing retirement.
Even if India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but Rohit fails to score in the remaining three innings, he is heading out. Harsha Bhogle, Mark Waugh and Michael Vaughan opined on the batter’s future in the longest format of the game.
“Rohit Sharma is clearly struggling. Mark (Waugh) would you give him another Test in Sydney?” Harsha Bhogle said.
“I would as he is leading the team but he hasn’t been good at all. You need performance from your skipper but Rohit is out-of-form,” Mark Waugh said.
Vaughan highlighted Rohit’s age factor. “He reflexes have gone slow and Rohit is getting out on balls that he used to hit for big shots,” Michael Vaughan said.
