Sunil Gavaskar takes a U-turn on young Indian cricketer, gives him special compliment

Nitish Kumar Reddy has impressed Sunil Gavaskar, who had questioned his place in the playing XI during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. However, the all-rounder proved critics wrong as he scored 41 runs in the first innings, helping India National Cricket Team post 150 runs.

The visitors then bundled out Australia for 104, taking a 46-run lead. He amassed an unbeaten 38 in the second essay.

Sunil Gavaskar hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli for their hundreds in the second innings but called Nitish Reddy’s knock the most impressive.

“The hundreds by Jaiswal and Virat were terrific, but the most impressive innings was played by Nitish Kumar Reddy. He showed game awareness despite playing in his maiden Test,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

“He was India’s top scorer in the first innings and his bowling was also handy. He fielded superbly. He is a man for the future,” he added.

Gavaskar had slammed the team management for giving Nitish his debut. “They have dropped Ashwin and Jadeja and included a young cricketer, Nitish. “Is he ready for Test cricket? This is a new management with a new thinking,” Gavaskar said on Day 1 of the Perth Test.
