“I have personally tried to convince him to continue as Team India’s head coach”: Rohit Sharma pays emotional tribute to Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid’s association with the Indian team will end after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The head coach of the Men in Blue refused to reapply for the job, making the ongoing global tournament his last assignment with the national team. Team India captain Rohit Sharma has paid an emotional tribute to the outgoing coach.

Dravid came on board after the T20 World Cup in 2021. He had replaced Ravi Shastri, who was successful in bilateral series. Dravid’s most memorable moment came in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The host nation made it to the final without losing a match before going down to Australia in the mega game at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Rohit worked closely with Dravid across formats in international cricket. The two played a key role in success of the young players.

“Dravid was my first international captain. He is a role model and did a lot for the Indian team over the years. I have personally tried to convince him to continue as Team India’s head coach. I will not be able to see him go,” Rohit Sharma said a day before India’s first match against Ireland in New York.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir is the front-runner to coach the team after Dravid’s tenure.
